Lancaster Announces Solar Program

The City of Lancaster will offer residents, businesses and non profits affordable ways to adopt solar power. Mayor R. Rex Parris and Sierra Toyota said they will be the first participants in the Solar Lancaster program. The car dealership will put in a 632-kilowatt installation at its new building. Through an agreement with SolarCity, residents can enter into a financing option for solar panels while businesses and non profits can install the panels at no upfront cost and pay for the power on a monthly basis through a purchase agreement. SolarCity has opened an office in the Lancaster Business Park to handle Solar Lancaster operations. The city is working with the company to install solar panels at six sites, including City Hall and the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. “As a city, we’re dedicated to offering ways to help our community go green,” Parris said. “We will all benefit from this program, which will help reduce our carbon footprint while creating a number of new jobs in our community.” Mark R.
