Job Fair to Attract Veterans

Veteran job seekers will be able to meet with employers and workforce resource representatives at the San Fernando Valley/Antelope Valley-Ventura County Veteran Job Fair Collaboration’s fourth annual fair in October, the organization announced. More than 2,000 job seekers and 87 employers are expected to participate in the “Honor a Hero – Hire a Vet” job and resource fair held on Oct. 7 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel. “At this time when so many of them are coming home from the war, they have the opportunity to get back into the workforce or go into school or training,” said Norma Gallegos, employment marketing representative for the Northeast San Fernando Valley WorkSource Center. While the event is open to all individuals from the community, there will be an early registration period for veterans, giving them early access to employers, Gallegos said. Veterans, National Guard members and Reserve members returning from active duty are expected to attend. Attendees will range from those seeking new careers to those looking for their first jobs since returning home. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with pre-registration for veteran job seekers starting at 9:45 a.m. The fair will be promoted and advertised throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties and their surrounding areas, and job openings will be posted on CalJOBS, a free Internet job and resume listing services. Employers who wish to participate have until Sept. 30 to register for a fee of $149. Several local economic groups are supporting the event, including the Valley Economic Alliance, the San Fernando Valley Employer Advisory Council and WorkSource Centers in the San Fernando/Antelope Valley Region. – Jessica Selva
