A private investment firm has acquired 3D technology and software company 3ality, a move that will help grow the firm. Clearlake Capital Group provided an unspecified investment into the Burbank-based company and additional terms of the deal were not disclosed. Steve Schklair, founder of 3ality, will remain as chief executive. Behdad Eghbali and Prashant Mehrotra, both of Clearlake Capital, join the 3ality board of directors. 3ality provides the film and broadcast industries with software and technologies for producing immersive 3D entertainment. Its products have been used on feature films, live sporting events and concerts, and commercials. The company’s software and hardware bring high quality results to a format that has become essential rather than optional, Schklair said. “With support from the Clearlake team in this recapitalization, the company is positioned for additional growth as we continue offering technology solutions and expanded field services to our customers,” Schklair said. “With break-through motion pictures like “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Hobbit “being produced using 3ality technology and equipment, we are confident the company is poised for great success.” Mark R.
