Providence Tarzana Medical Center has selected a veteran nursing administrator as its new chief operating officer and chief nursing officer, the hospital announced. Phyllis Bushart has more than 30 years of hospital managerial experience, with eight years spent with the hospital’s former owner, Tenet Healthcare System. Bushart most recently held administrative positions at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys and at the Los Angeles-based nonprofit COPE Health Solutions, where she served as executive vice president for the group’s Health Workforce Transformation division. The new officer’s experience includes managing employee development and recruiting programs, coordinating efforts that resulted in improved quality of care, converting hospital teams to new information systems and overseeing construction, operations, planning and licensing for a new medical outpatient surgery center. “We’re very fortunate to have someone like Phyllis with her outstanding administrative capabilities and proven track record in hospital and nursing operations join us here at Providence Tarzana,” said Dale Surowitz, the hospital’s chief executive. Bushart graduated from Los Angeles Valley College’s associate arts nursing program. She also has a bachelor’s degree in health care management from the University of La Verne and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Redlands. Jessica Selva
