The Grossman Burn Center plans to open a new burn center in Phoenix this summer, its second outside California. The West Hill-based burn center organization signed an agreement to establish a new burn unit at St. Luke’s Medical Center. The new center will provide a variety of burn services, from acute and reconstructive burn care to rehabilitation and post-treatment emotional and psychological support. The center will be led by Dr. Peter Grossman, the Grossman Burn Center’s medical director, and managed on a day-to-day basis by physicians on the medical staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center who are trained in restorative burn care. “As both population and demand for additional burn care resources in Arizona continue to grow, there is a demonstrated need for another burn unit in the metropolitan Phoenix area,” Grossman said. “We believe, based on our experiencing in Southern California where there are no fewer than eight operating burn centers, that we can address that need by complementing the existing burn center in Phoenix which is currently the only burn center in the state of Arizona.” St. Luke’s Medical Center is part of the IASIS Healthcare network. The Grossman Burn Center has also partnered with Adventist Health, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, Hospital Corporation of America and Integrated Healthcare Holdings Inc. to open burn units in California and Louisiana. The organization is also in talks to open a burn center in Texas. Jessica Vernabe
