Film Roman Sold to Investor Group

Starz Media LLC has sold off the Film Roman animation studio, the long-time production house for “The Simpsons” and other animated television series. The terms of the deal between Starz and Scott Greenberg, former Film Roman president, for the Burbank-based studio were not disclosed. When the deal closes before the end of the year, Greenberg and a group of investors will own the studio along with certain intellectual property and development rights. Film Roman is unmatched in the traditional animation it creates and the studio is poised for growth following its move in the CG animation, Greenberg said. Along with “The Simpsons,” Film Roman has produced “King of the Hill” for Fox Television, “Super Hero Squad,” “The Avengers,” and “Dan Vs.” for the new Hub Network, a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro Inc. that has offices in the same Burbank building as Film Roman.
