Capstone Turbines Corp. will operate a power plant at a luxury resort in the Dominican Republic, a first for the manufacturer of microturbines. The contract for the protection plan for the resort is valued at $1 million over a nine-year period. Capstone will operate the power plant in addition to the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the microturbine. Offering the protection plan to purchasers of the microturbines is an additional source of revenue for the Chatsworth-based company. For microturbines in remote locations or using more than 3 megawatts, it is not uncommon in the clean energy industry to have some kind of onsite presence, said Capstone President and Chief Executive Officer Darren Jamison. “Life cycle costs and emissions are the cornerstones of our value proposition, and with (a protection plan) and a factory trained operator our customers can rest assured that maintenance expenses will not exceed their budget and plant up time will be at the highest level possible,” Jamison said.
