Airport Commission Recommends New Management Firm for Golf Course

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners recommended approval a 10-year lease for the operation of the golf course at the southern end of Van Nuys Airport, including improvements for the property. Van Nuys Golf Management Partners LLC will invest a minimum of $713,000 in the golf course within a year. If a 20-year extension of the lease is approved, the management firm will invest up to an additional $2.05 million in improvements. The airport commissioners voted in favor of the agreement at the Dec. 6 meeting. There was no discussion on the item. The Van Nuys Golf Course is on 55-acres and includes a 9-hole executive course, an 18-hole par 3 course, driving range, pro shop, and maintenance and restaurant facilities. The commissioners originally approved the lease in June but the city’s Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee recommended the lease be rejected so that a community benefit component could be added. Working with Los Angeles World Airports and Councilman Tony Cardenas’s office, Van Nuys Golf Management Partners agreed to add reduced fees, and golf tournaments, clinics and summer camps for junior players, and an annual Women-in-Golf Day. Van Nuys Golf Management Partners is a partial owner in Westchester Golf Partners, which completed a $2.1 million three-hole restoration project at Westchester Golf Course. Mark R. Madler
