Salem Media Group has announced the retirement of Washington, D.C. General Manager David Ruleman, who will depart from the post in June after more than three decades with the Camarillo media broadcaster. In conjunction with Ruleman’s retirement, the Camarillo broadcaster said it had promoted WAVA Station Manager Tom Moyer to general manager, effective April 1. Moyer now oversees operations of all Salem stations in the Washington D.C. area, including WAVA-AM, WAVA-FM and WWRC. Ruleman joined Salem in 1986 as the first general manager of its KPRZ-AM station in San Diego. He was promoted in 1992 to vice president and general manager of Salem’s newly acquired WAVA-FM station in Washington, D.C., a role that gradually expanded to include oversight of regional operations in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Boston. “David Ruleman is in many respects one of the ‘founding fathers’ of Salem Media,” Chief Executive David Atsinger said in a statement. “(His) daily presence will be missed, but the legacy of his leadership will last into future generations of leaders for Salem.” Headquartered in Camarillo, Salem is a multimedia broadcaster of Christian and conservative content. The company operates more than 100 radio stations throughout the U.S., including 73 in top 25 markets, and reported net income of $8.9 million in 2016. Salem first reported Ruleman’s retirement on Monday. On Tuesday, the company’s stock fell 25 cents, or 3.4 percent, to close at $7.05 on the Nasdaq.
