Salem Media Signs Larry Elder, Moves Hugh Hewitt Show

Salem Media Group has signed talk show host Larry Elder to join its lineup on the Salem Radio Network in the 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. time slot. Elder will take the place of Hugh Hewitt, who will move to the morning show. The Camarillo-based Christian and politically conservative broadcaster said the changes will take place April 4. Elder aired the “Sage from South Central” show on KABC in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years, and later was syndicated nationally on the ABC Radio Network. Currently, he has a night show on Salem’s AM 870 in Los Angeles. His calling card phrase on the air is “we have a country to save.” “What a great time to be on the radio, helping listeners make sense of one of the craziest election cycles we have ever seen,” Elder said in a statement. “I can’t think of a better choice to fill the valuable Hugh Hewitt slot,” said Phil Boyce, Salem Radio Network senior vice president, in a statement. “Listeners will be riveted to his take on the day’s news, and his insights into the most important issues of our day he will bring them back for appointment listening.” Salem announced the change Wednesday. Shares closed Thursday up 1 cent or a fraction of a percent to $4.21 on the Nasdaq.
