Salem to Launch Urban Gospel Station

Salem Media Group Inc. will launch a contemporary urban gospel radio station in St. Louis, the company announced Monday. The Camarillo broadcaster and publisher of Christian and conservative content will air the new format on WSDZ 95.1 FM and 1260 AM under the brand name Praise 95.1. The station will begin the new format on Oct. 23. The format will feature urban gospel music during the day with artists such as Travis Greene, Tamela Mann, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, and Tasha Cobbs. It will carry local and national Christian teaching programs in the evenings. “This is a continuation of Salem’s mission to serve the Christian community through uplifting music and teaching from local churches,” Greg Lhamon, vice president at Salem, said in a statement. “Based on conversations with many in the St. Louis area, the community has been waiting to enjoy gospel on the FM dial.” Shares of Salem (SALM) closed Monday up 15 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $6.55 on the Nasdaq.
