Machinima to Cut 81 Jobs

Online gaming platform Machinima Inc. is restructuring its operations in Burbank and laying off more than 80 employees. The company, formerly owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment, is now under Otter Media Inc. following Time Warner’s acquisition by AT&T Inc. The layoffs of the 81 employees are expected to begin March 16, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications filed with the state Employment Development Department. Positions to be eliminated include directors, producers, editors, vice presidents and senior managers, according to the notification. Machinima was founded in 2000 and after several years of investment by Warner Bros. was acquired outright by the studio in 2016. Early this month, Machinima shut down its YouTube channel. The channel had more than 12 million subscribers.
