Major GM Recall

Nearly 1 million vehicles are being voluntarily recalled by General Motors Corp. due to a problem with a heated washer fluid system that could short circuit and potentially cause a vehicle fire. While a GM spokesperson said there have been nine reports of fires, three of which were linked to the system, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Office of Defect Investigations reports that GM provided information about 41 non-crash-related engine compartment fires, unrelated to arson. The NHTSA opened an investigation in February into model-year 2007 Yukon and Tahoe vehicles over potential engine compartment fires. The investigation was expanded in June to cover about 2.7 million large cars, trucks and SUVs. That investigation remains open. No accidents or injuries have been specifically linked to the defect. Some of the same vehicles are also involved in another recall regarding the window washing system that could cause the wipers to malfunction due to a build-up of snow or ice on the windshield. The recall includes the following vehicles: Buick Enclave (2008) Buick Lucerne (2006-2008) Cadillac DTS (2006-2008) Cadillac Escalade, ESV and EXT (2007-2008) Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban (2007-2008) GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL (2007-2008) Hummer H2 (2006-2008) Saturn Outlook (2007-2008) Dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse to fix the problem free of charge, GM said. For more information, owners may contact Buick at (866) 608-8080, Cadillac at (800) 982-2339, Chevrolet at (800) 630-2438, Saturn at (800) 972-8876, GMC at (866) 996-9436 or Hummer at (800) 732-5493.
