Your Plans for Millennium Eve? Until a few months ago, club owners and party planners were predicting that New Year’s parties would be all booked up well before the big day. But that hasn’t been the case, so the San Fernando Valley Business Journal asks: What are you doing for New Year’s? Cindy English Paralegal Law Offices of I. Allen Oberman My boyfriend and I are going to Sacramento with 12 other couples on a paddleboat on the Sacramento River. We go up and down the river for dinner, and there will be a huge party all night. The boat stops in Old Town Sacramento, and we can get off and go into the town since it’ll be open all night. Then the next morning we’re going to a murder mystery party. We just made plans like two months ago. Walter Prince Director Northridge Chamber of Commerce My intention is to stay home because I don’t like to go out on the streets with the crazies. I’m too old for that stuff nowadays. The early publicity said everything was going to be jam packed and too expensive, so we decided, to heck with it. Now it doesn’t look that way, but it’s too late. I’ve spoken to half a dozen people we usually gather with and all of them are staying home. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s relatively quiet. David Goldman Owner Culinary Farms About 40 of us are renting a luxury yacht for 24 hours. I’m not sure where it’s going. Maybe we’ll just dock a few miles out and party. I’m sure we’ll stay there overnight. No one’s going to be in any shape to go home. It’s leaving from Newport Beach, so we do have to drive down there. But from there, the only one who has to be the designated driver is the captain. Cheryl Adams Executive Director Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce My New Year’s Eve has actually been planned for several years now. I serve on the board for a charitable organization, the Association to Aid Victims of Domestic Violence, here in Santa Clarita. We’re hosting a New Year’s Eve dinner and party, so that’s where I’ll be. We already have half our reservations filled, which is a lot better than usual. But we’re still expecting some people to go out of town and other people to stay home because of the millenium. Alex Motamen Manager Grapheex I’m staying home this year and not doing anything special. Where can I go with two kids? Millie Jones Vice President, Public Affairs Southland Regional Association of Realtors. I don’t have any plans for New Year’s. It was hyped up so much earlier this year. I have friends who are going to the Equator and going on cruises, and now I hear cruises aren’t booking and it’s not living up to the hype. For me, New Year’s has always been a quieter thing, even when I do small parties. Reza B. Khan Director of Sales and Marketing Airtel Plaza Hotel I’m not doing anything. I’ll be spending it with some friends and not doing anything special this year. I don’t have to work on New Year’s Eve. It’s a busy time in the hotel industry; everybody’s worried about Y2K, but we’re pretty up-to-date here. Elly Goodman-Forman Forman Interiors We’re going out to dinner and then we’re going over to some people’s house and spending it there. It’s what we do every year we’re not doing anything special for this New Year’s.
