CSUN Campus to Host Large-Scale Vaccination Site

California State University – Northridge will become a large-scale COVID-19 vaccination site starting Tuesday, the school announced over the weekend.CSUN will be one of five mass vaccination sites operated by Los Angeles County, with the others at Dodger Stadium, Pomona Fairplex, the Forum in Inglewood, Valencia’s Six Flags Magic Mountain and the L.A. County Office of Education in Downey.L.A. County will utilize two parking lots at CSUN. About 4,000 people are expected to be vaccinated daily, according to a report from Patch.com. Once the site is fully operational, that number is expected to increase to 12,000 vaccinations per day.“CSUN is proud to partner with Los Angeles County on this important initiative,” the university said in a statement.Although the college isn’t directly involved in on-site vaccination logistics, 55 of its nursing students have been helping facilitate vaccine shots and sterilize needles at Valley hospitals, including Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, and Van Nuys’ Valley Presbyterian Hospital.“People were cheering the first day we were there at Valley Presbyterian,” Ariel Dankner, who is starting her final semester in CSUN’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, said in a CSUN newsletter on Thursday. “Everyone was taking pictures of themselves getting vaccinated and posting it, encouraging other people to get vaccinated.”Dankner added: “I think they’re going to need more students once the public starts getting the vaccine.”
