VALLEY INSIDER

Looking for a role model in personal discipline? Doron Tisser is your man. The founder of Tisser Law Group in Encino has completed two Ironman triathlons and 15 marathons, including the L.A. Marathon six times. “I enjoy challenging myself to do something new – and then do it better,” he told Valley Insider. “You realize you can do anything if you put your mind to it.” At his first Ironman, he finished in 15 hours 43 minutes. “The next year, I trained harder and did it in 13 hours 54 minutes. You realize you can do better,” he explained. Tisser has turned his running to charitable purposes; he and wife Laurie Tisser started Team Tisser Charitable Foundation, funded by donations based on his races, which has raised more than $300,000 for cancer research and other causes. “When you know you’re training for others, it motivates you to train harder,” he said. … Mack Magnone, a digital marketing manager at accounting software firm Floqast in Van Nuys, applies his skills to promote independent breweries at HoppedLA.com. The website, run with his brother Gary Magnone, helps visitors discover new brews and “beer experiences.” The site features local breweries organized by neighborhood; it also lists beer releases, festivals, live music performances and sporting events with a beer angle. As for the name, it describes Mack Magnone’s taste. “I like a good hoppy beer, something with a little bitter flavor,” he said. “For my brother and I, hop became a verb, as in ‘Let’s get hopped up!’ And HoppedLA rolls off the tongue.” While the site started as hobby, it now provides a chance for experimentation in digital marketing strategies and it generates revenue through promotional deals with brewers – keeping in mind the brothers’ agenda to support local and independent businesses rather corporate brewers. “We’ve made a stance that we won’t promote any big beer conglomerate,” Mack Magnone said.
