Ferrara Candy Co. is closing its downtown Glendale offices, resulting in layoffs for some of the 88 employees working there. Ferrara, a business unit of Ferrero Group in Luxembourg, notified the state Employment Development Department that the layoffs will take place on Dec. 31 or March 31 of next year, the closing date of the offices at 800 N. Brand Blvd. “Currently 88 employees work out of the company’s Glendale office,” the letter to the department said. “While almost all of the employees will be offered new positions with either Ferrara Candy Co. or its related company, Ferrero USA Inc., there will be some separations from employment.” The 800 N. Brand building is where Nestlé USA had occupied multiple floors for its corporate headquarters before relocating last year to Virginia. Also last year, Ferrero Group acquired Nestlé USA’s confectionery business for approximately $2.8 billion. The transaction added to the Ferrara portfolio such candy brands as Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Crunch bars and Nerds. Ferrara Candy Co., the third largest non-chocolate confectionary company in the U.S., was acquired by Ferrero Group in October 2017 from a private equity firm for an undisclosed amount. It is headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.
