Neff Sold to Mad Engine

Action sports apparel and accessory brand Neff Headwear Inc. has been acquired by Mad Engine, an apparel licensing firm. Neff will move from Camarillo to Mad Engine’s Orange County headquarters as part of the deal, which also will see Neff co-founder and Chief Executive Shaun Neff join Mad Engine as chief creative officer. “Mad Engine has a phenomenal team, they’re strong financially and they’ve got superior supply chain capabilities,” Neff said in a statement. “And in this new role, I’m super motivated to bring fresh, out-of-the-box opportunities to the Mad Engine team.” Neff Headwear was launched by Neff and his brother Joe Neff in 2002, while Shaun Neff was a student at Brigham Young University. The firm bills itself as the world’s first “authentic core snow and skate headwear” company, and sells its hats, beanies, facemasks and graphic t-shirts online and at retail stores in 45 countries. Neff has more than a dozen collaborations with athletes, artists and celebrities, including partnerships with Kevin Durant, Snoop Dogg and Kate Upton. Los Angeles private equity firm Marlin Equity Partners, which invested in Neff in 2012, and the Neff family oversaw the acquisition. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
