Santa Clarita Sets Filming Record in January

Despite the economic downturn, the City of Santa Clarita is breaking records for the number of film shoots occurring there. The city’s film office reports that 84 film days took place in the city in January, a 265 percent increase compared to January 2008. The increase in shoots also made a record-breaking economic impact of more than $2.3 million. Since the film office was launched in 2002, the City of Santa Clarita has never been site to so many film shoots in one month. In January, the office also upped the number of film permits issued to 25 from 24 in January 2008. The film office attributes the increase in film days to the base of local television production in Santa Clarita, including HBO’s “Big Love,” CBS’s “NCIS” and “The Unit” and Discovery Channel’s “Doing Da Vinci.”
