The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a $2 million grant to the Bob Hope Airport to insulate homes from jet aircraft noise. The grant brings to $12 million the amount the Burbank airport has received this year from the federal government for soundproofing. “This is an investment that will improve the quality of life for residents who live near the airport,” Congressman Brad Sherman said. The money will cover 52 homes near the airport. Under earlier noise mitigation projects, Luther Burbank Middle School, Glenwood Elementary School, Burbank Adult School and St. Patrick’s School were insulated. The airport authority has added $13.3 million in matching funds and has committed another $1.9 million to pay for noise-abatement work not covered by federal grants.
