Deluxe to Lay Off 46 Workers in Burbank

Deluxe Entertainment Services Group Inc. is laying off a total of 46 employees from two of its locations in Burbank. The production and post-production company notified the state Employment Development Department this month that the staffing cuts would take place around Oct. 16 in offices at 2400 Empire Ave. affecting 22 employees and at 2130 Hollywood Way affecting 24 employees. The layoffs are expected to be permanent. Positions being eliminated include quality control operators, managers and supervisors; visual effects supervisors and directors; and quality assurance and software engineers. Deluxe, owned by New York private investment firm MacAndrews & Forbes Inc., provides production, post-production, distribution and archiving services for film and television studios. It operates multiple locations in Burbank and one in Valencia. “Deluxe continues to transform itself to remain a leader in the space,” a spokesperson for the company said in an email to the Business Journal. “This involves us proactively shifting to focus on new technologies and building platform-based products, while deemphasizing the services that customers, and the market, are shifting away from. Unfortunately, this means we are reducing the headcount of our distribution operations.”
