Prior to working at MannKind, Castagna served in various executive roles at Amgen Inc. in nearby Thousand Oaks, and its New York rival Bristol-Myers Squibb. MannKind, founded by late billionaire entrepreneur Al Mann, moved to the Conejo Valley from Valencia in 2017. Currently, MannKind is focused on developing drug treatments for rare lung and endocrine diseases while continuing to market its flagship drug Afrezza, an inhalable insulin treatment for diabetes. MannKind currently has 250 employees and expects to add 100 employees by this time next year, Castagna said.
