Stocks were relatively flat for the four-week period ended Jan. 7, which saw less trading activity due to the holidays and some volatility as oil prices dropped. The Dow Jones Industrial index gained a meager 0.3 percent, while the Valley 50 ended with a 1 percent decrease. Telecom components supplier MRV Communications Inc. was the top gainer with a 19 percent increase following approval of a stock repurchase plan. Apollo Medical Holdings Inc. increased by 11 percent on higher than average trading. Among the big losers was Second Sight Medical Products Inc. with a 28 percent slide a month after its debut as a publicly traded company.
