California Lutheran University’s Public Price Promise program is expanding to match the costs of all nine University of California undergraduate campuses.
The nearly $30,000 scholarship was previously available to freshmen and transfer students who were accepted to UC Berkely, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego or UC Santa Barbara. Beginning in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, the program will expand to those accepted by UC Riverside, UC Merced or UC Santa Cruz.
The scholarship allows students to attend Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks for the same cost as attending a UC campus. Since the program’s inception in 2008, 814 students have received $51 million in scholarships. Currently, there are 193 students receiving the price-match scholarship.
“By inviting those admitted to these additional campuses, we can provide a broader scope of options to a more diverse group of students who may not have initially placed Cal Lutheran on their lists because they didn’t think a private education was attainable,” Michael Elgarico, dean of undergraduate admission and outreach, said in a statement.
The Public Price Promise scholarship has no income requirements and is open to out-of-state and international students.
Students that maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet GPA requirements can renew the scholarship each year. Transfer students can receive the scholarship for two years maximum.
