New Hotel Opens Doors In Calabasas

When the Cambria Hotel Calabasas-Malibu at last opens its doors this October, it will be a fresh, upscale addition to the region’s hospitality sector.

The official grand opening date for the hotel at 24600 Rondell St. near the Las Virgenes Road exit on the 101 freeway in Calabasas is Oct. 27.

The three-story hotel will feature 125 guest rooms in addition to 936 square feet of meeting event space, an outdoor pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, open air dining patio with views of the Santa Monica Mountains, indoor dining, spa-like bathrooms and other amenities offered by upscale hotel chains.

Choice Hotels, parent company of the Cambria brand, teamed up with the Malibu-based Weintraub Real Estate Group on the project, which broke ground in July 2019.

According to Mark Shalala, vice president of development and upscale brands for Choice Hotels, the hotel is part of the company’s expansion plans for the West Coast.

“The Calabasas-Malibu Canyon region is one of the most picturesque places on the West Coast, and the location continues to see a strong increase in demand for both business and leisure,” he said in a statement. “The Cambria Hotel will fill an unmet need in the market, particularly with its close proximity to Pepperdine University and the numerous companies in the area.”

Those companies include the corporate headquarters for restaurateur Cheesecake Factory Inc. and specialty retailer Harbor Freight Tools, according to the hotel’s website.

Room rates at the new hotel range from about $240 per night for single rooms with king or queen beds to $350 for suites. Choice Hotel members receive a slight discount, with the rooms and suites in the $200 to $300 range.

Weintraub Group received full entitlements to construct on the 3-acre property in June 2016. However, it didn’t’ break ground until July 2019 and then faced setbacks with the uncertainties posed by COVID-19.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Choice Hotels to develop the Cambria Calabasas. Calabasas and the Malibu area have seen continued growth over the last few years, and with its location just a short drive to Los Angeles, travelers will find an upscale home for both business and pleasure in Choice’s new property,” Richard Weintraub, president and founder, said in a statement.
