Kong Fights Godzilla in Free Game

Video game developer Sun Machine Entertainment launched last month a new free-to-play mobile game and has partnered with Legendary Entertainment to release it.

“Go Big! Featuring Godzilla vs. Kong” is the mobile game representation of box office hit “Godzilla vs. Kong,” the latest chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise.

Legendary in Burbank was founded in 2000 by Thomas Tull and $500 million in private equity financing. After building the production company into a Hollywood powerhouse, Tull sold the company to Dalian Wanda Group Co. Ltd. of China for $3.5 billion. In addition to financing movies, it also has television, comics and digital media divisions.

Sam Rappaport, director of interactive media at Legendary, said that the mobile game is one of the deepest collaborations it has done, and the company couldn’t be happier with Sun Machine’s portrayal. Fans of the Monsterverse franchise and those who haven’t yet seen the film will both love the game, he added.

“We had numerous meetings with Sun Machine’s development team along the way and, having played the game firsthand many times, we are very happy with the final product,” Rappaport said in a statement. “‘Go Big! Featuring Godzilla vs. Kong’ is non-stop action and pure fun, bringing a playful element to the iconic Kong and Godzilla titans not yet seen before.”

Wil Mozell, chief executive of Sun Machine, said it was an honor to partner with the team at Legendary and collaborate on the iconic intellectual property of “Godzilla vs. Kong.”

The casual mobile game begins with players selecting “Team Godzilla” or “Team Kong” as their chosen character before entering the “Titan Battlegrounds.” Players must smash objects, dash through mayhem and grow big to advance through each level, all while completing daily objectives to earn new characters and skins, collecting power-ups and challenging the Kong and Godzilla Bosses to get points and crush opponents, Legendary and Sun Machine said in a release.
