Clean Team Launches in Van Nuys

Aeroplex/Aerolease Group is making available disinfecting services for aviation companies at Van Nuys Airport and elsewhere to help protect employees and guests on the ground during the coronavirus outbreak. Using chemicals approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the treatment is for office, lobbies, shop areas, hangars, equipment and other interior spaces. The treatment typically remains effective from seven to 14 days depending on the use of the areas. Chief Executive Curt Castagna said the chemicals will cause no harm and carry a fresh scent. “The fog dissipates in a matter of minutes and it doesn’t leave any residue.” he said in an interview with the Business Journal. The cost charged by his company, which leases hangar and office space at Van Nuys, is similar to janitorial services or carpet cleaning, Castagna added. “We have priced it in such a way that it is pennies per square foot,” he said. “It’s not a large cost.” A typical aviation facility disinfecting process depends on the size of the building. However, such services can be adapted around the needs of the specific operation, and the facilities can typically be returned to use within 30 minutes after disinfecting. So far, the company has been contacted by a handful of businesses at Van Nuys, Castagna said. As the economy begins to reopen, business owners need to be aware of ways to provide confidence to their clients, whether it be a restaurant, car dealer or an FBO (fixed-base operator) terminal, he added. “We think for the next year or so that’s going to be standard practice,” Castagna said. The company has trained its employees on disinfecting services at its own locations, starting at Van Nuys and Long Beach. Its process follows National Air Transportation Association guidelines for disinfection and uses approved products to disinfect facilities and prevent the spread of infectious disease.
