Former VICA Chairman Dies

By MARK R. MADLER Staff Reporter David Adelman, an attorney who served in business and nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando Valley, died March 22 from pancreatic cancer. He was 64. Adelman was a lawyer for more than 20 years with G&B Law LLP in Encino. He served as chairman of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association. He also served as a board member of New Horizons, a North Hills nonprofit that works with developmentally disabled people; on the board of Valley Presbyterian Hospital; and as chairman of Fit 4 the Cause, an Encino nonprofit started by Adelman and his wife Cindy Rakowitz that provides exercise and nutritional services to those who can cannot afford it. “David was that rare friend and colleague,” said Pegi Matsuda, a longtime civic leader. “He started every greeting with ‘Is there anything I can do for you?’ and he meant it.” Arthur Greenberg, a partner in the law firm where Adelman worked, called his colleague the life of the party. “He was big in terms of how he made clients feel confident and comfortable,” Greenberg said. “We need more people like David. … People who aren’t just taking but are prepared to give back.”
