Bed Bath & Beyond Announces Closure of 40 Stores

Home goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond has released a list of 40 store locations across the country that “have already closed or will close in 2020.” The good news for the Valley area: the list includes no local stores other than already-shuttered outlets at 19211 Golden Valley Road in Santa Clarita and 17401 Ventura Blvd. in Encino. The Santa Clarita store closed in October. The Encino store has been closed for several months as well. A second Bed Bath & Beyond in Santa Clarita will be spared, as will stores in Burbank, Studio City, Northridge, Canoga Park and Valencia. Other Southern California closures include locations in Hemet and Chino Hills. The news from Bed Bath & Beyond comes just days after another home goods retailer, Pier 1 Imports, announced it would close 450 U.S. stores, including ones in Northridge and Thousand Oaks, amid decreased foot traffic. The companies now join Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Express as the latest retailers forced by the rise of e-commerce to downsize significantly.
