The AMC theater, among the last tenants in the Promenade shopping mall in Woodland Hills, will move a couple of blocks north to the Westfield Topanga shopping mall, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield announced Tuesday. The company owns both shopping centers. The company, formerly Westfield, announced AMC will open a 12-screen luxury theater as part of the dining and entertainment “district” that it is building at the Topanga mall where a Sears store once stood. The 55,000-square-foot theater will be part of the 160,000 square foot entertainment center, which is expected to open late next year. Westfield did not specify when the new AMC will open or if the existing theater will close before or after the new theater opens. “AMC will continue to provide the most state-of-the-art moviegoing experience to San Fernando Valley residents with a new luxury theater,” Larry Green, vice president of development at Westfield Topanga, said in a statement. “The Westfield Topanga renovation will also include a new, grand entrance and improved pedestrian connectivity with the Village and will provide residents across the San Fernando Valley and wider L.A. region, the chance to enjoy world-class dining and entertainment experiences without traveling far from home.” The Village is a third shopping center owned by Westfield. It is between the other two. AMC is one of the last tenants at the Promenade. Besides a post office, three restaurants and the West Valley-Warner Center Chamber of Commerce office still are at the Promenade. The indoor section of the mall is long closed. Westfield is proposing a $1.5 billion overhaul at the Promenade. Named “Promenade 2035,” the project spans 34 acres and is to include 1,400 residential units, two hotels, shops, cafes, a grocery and office building, as well as 10-acres-plus of open space. Westfield also envisions a 7,500-seat stadium at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Oxnard Street as part of the project.
