Providence Grants Support 23 Nonprofits

Three Providence Health & Services hospitals in the San Fernando Valley banded together to provide $400,000 in grants to 23 local nonprofits this month. The money will help combat homelessness and domestic violence and provide aid to people living with various medical disabilities. Among the recipients are youth services organization Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley, Child Development Institute in Tarzana, homeless shelter Ascencia in Glendale, poverty relief agency MEND in Pacoima, domestic abuse treatment center Haven Hills in Canoga Park and mental health services group El Centro de Amistad in San Fernando. Other recipients serve children from low-income families, the elderly, the blind and more. Funding was organized through the company’s Mother Joseph Fund and was contributed by Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Providence Tarzana Medical Center. “Providence is committed to health for a better world, to connecting to our communities by promoting wellness and addressing the social determinants of health,” said Sister Nancy Jurecki, the chief mission integration officer for Providence St. Joseph, in a statement. “The needs in our communities are growing and it is evident we must work together with like-minded partners to meet those needs.”
