New Senior Development Proposed in Sherman Oaks

Nonprofit developer Mercy Housing has filed an application with Los Angeles Planning Department to construct 55 units of senior affordable housing at the Sherman Oaks address where a different developer had intended to create a 60-unit facility two years ago. According to Urbanize.LA, the Mercy Housing development, which would replace a 1940s-era triplex at 14534 Burbank Blvd., would entail building a four-story structure featuring 55 apartments devoted to low- and very low-income seniors. The residential dwelling proposal calls for increases in allowable floor area and height, and decreases in required open space and side yards. In 2017, another entity had obtained entitlements to create a different four-story project at this property with 60 rooms for eldercare. However, the developer did not move forward with the idea.
