CEO Conveys Holiday Look In Capital

Minutemen Press Printing & Mailing President Pamela Berg is one of 100 volunteers who will travel to Washington, D.C. to deck the halls of the White House this holiday season. Berg was selected from among thousands of applicants to assist First Lady Melania Trump in decorating 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for Christmas. “I feel like I won the decorating lottery,” Berg said. Minuteman Press is located in Panorama City and is a subsidiary of PrintCom Inc. in Van Nuys. The company prints and designs materials including business cards, flyers, catalogues and brochures. Berg also sits on the boards of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association and several other Valley nonprofits. Applications for volunteers opened in August, and Berg jumped at the opportunity after seeing a post online. While not a professional decorator or interior designer, she had long dreamed of traveling to the White House to participate in the holiday activity. “It was something my sister and I talked about when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, because she and I loved decorating,” Berg said. Berg’s sister, Terri, passed away a few years ago. She said the trip will carry an extra significance for her. “I’ll be doing it for the both of us,” she said. Berg will make the trip to the White House on Nov. 19, where volunteers will spend three days decorating trees, placing wreaths and hanging Christmas lights. She is excited to visit the White House for the first time and receive a special tour of rooms not usually open to the public. She will also meet the first lady at a thank you reception for volunteers. First ladies often take a leading role in decorating the White House for the holidays. Last year, Trump enlisted 150 helpers from 29 states who spent 1,600 hours setting up the holiday décor. The decorations, which the White House said was personally designed by Trump, included 71 wreaths, 53 Christmas trees, more than 18,000 lights, more than 12,000 ornaments, more than 3,100 yards of ribbon and more than 1,000 feet of garland. More than 25,000 visitors toured the holiday open house, the White House said. This year, in addition to decorators, the White House has invited high school bands, choirs and other “Christmas-themed” entertainers to perform at the festivities throughout December after the decorations go up the weekend following Thanksgiving. – Ethan Varian
