A 1 million-square-foot eldercare facility will be developed on a portion of the 59 acre property at Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Woodland Hills site, according to The Real Deal.

An application with the city of Los Angeles has outlined a 1.27 million-square-foot development plan that would bring 566 independent living units to Warner Center.

The huge facility would be created on a 17.6-acre portion of the defense contractor’s property at 21240 W. Burbank Blvd., where the remaining 41 acres will continue to be devoted to the company’s Mission Systems division, which makes military radar and other sensors.

The complex will also include a retail component and up to 129 suites of what may be an onsite hotel for guests.

It remains unclear if Northrop Grumman will be directly leading this development or if it will work with an outside firm on the project.

The defense contractor joins a host of other developers with projects under the Warner Center 2035 Plan. Adler Realty Investments has plans for a $1 billion transformation of Warner Center Corporate Park, at the intersection of DeSoto Street and Burbank Boulevard, while Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield SE is investing $1.5 billion into overhauling the nearly vacant Westfield Promenade and another $70 million into upgrading Westfield Topanga mall by late 2019.
