A North Hollywood businesswoman has pleaded guilty to defrauding Medicare of nearly $10 million. Susanna Artsruni, 46, is the former owner of Midvalley Medical Supply in Van Nuys. She had physician’s assistants at three Los Angeles medical clinics sign prescriptions and orders for medically unnecessary equipment, which she billed to Medicare, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Artsruni pleaded guilty Monday in Los Angeles federal court to one count of health care fraud and one count of money laundering. In total, her clinics submitted more than $24.8 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare, which paid more than $9.2 million on the bills. Artsruni faces a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison. The FBI, Department of Health and Human Services and Internal Revenue Service worked on the investigation.
