Villaraigosa Connects With Burbank Network

Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has become a senior adviser for Estrella TV, a Spanish-language broadcaster based in Burbank, according to media reports. The network, owned by Liberman Broadcasting, also in Burbank, hired Villaraigosa to give it greater visibility and make it competitive with well-established Spanish language networks Univision Communications and Telemundo, owned by NBCUniversal, the Los Angeles Times reported. Estrella is available on 30 television stations covering more than 80 percent of the markets in the country. Liberman owns and operates its own stations in California and four other states, and has affiliate deals with other stations throughout the country. “We feel that Antonio Villaraigosa — who really does represent the Hispanic community across the country, as well as economic success and contribution to the community — could help us get the word out about Estrella TV,” said Estrella TV CEO Lenard Liberman in the article. Villaraigosa served as mayor from 2005 through June 2013. Since leaving office he has been named a senior advisor for L.A. supplement and weight-loss products manufacturer Herbalife Ltd.; Banc of California, in Irvine; and public relations firm Edelman, co-headquartered in Chicago and New York City. He also is a visiting fellow at Harvard University and a part-time professor at the USC Price School of Public Policy.
