The number of passengers using Burbank Bob Hope Airport decreased about 1 percent in June compared to the same month a year ago, the airport announced on Wednesday. About 327,858 passengers used the Burbank airfield in June which was just less than the 331,115 in June 2013. For the first six months of the year, about 1.9 million passengers used the airport, a decrease of 1.45 percent from the 1.92 million in the first six months of 2013. Out of the seven airlines serving Bob Hope, only Alaska Airlines and US Airways showed increases in passengers. Southwest Airlines, the carrier with the most flights, had a 1 percent decrease to 246,217. Bob Hope Airport has struggled in the past few years as flight traffic and passenger counts dwindled amid the recession, and as carriers consolidated operations at larger airports to keep planes full. Passenger activity peaked in 2008 with 5.84 million people coming through the terminal. The airport has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan that would include tying in with more public transportation and the building of a new terminal.
