Van Nuys Plant Gets Military Contract

Exelis Inc. has received an $8 million contract to supply a radar system to the Estonian military to support missions by NATO. The work will be done in Van Nuys by the radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems business of Exelis, based in McLean, Va. The radar system to be used at the Estonia Ämari Air base will provide primary surveillance, secondary surveillance and approach information for landing aircraft. The system is compatible with NATO systems at 11 other sites across Europe. The contract expands Exelis’s footprint as a supplier of air traffic control equipment supporting transportation networks across Europe, said Dave Prater, vice president and general manager of the radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems business. “Exelis is committed to providing our allies with this key component as they continue to modernize their air traffic management infrastructure and capabilities,” he said, in a prepared statement.
