Perry Confirmed as Business Czar

The L.A. City Council voted unanimously to confirm former city councilwoman Jan Perry as head of the city’s economic development department. The vote Tuesday came after Mayor Eric Garcetti appointed Perry to the position of interim general manager of his newly created Economic and Workforce Development Department in July. He sought to make the appointment permanent last month. Perry, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in the March primary after serving on the council for 12 years, will be paid $215,878 a year in the position. As councilwoman, Perry represented downtown L.A. Perry gained favor with the business community over the last decade, most notably from her work to get approval for the massive L.A. Live downtown development. Perry’s role in the department has been focused on small businesses and job creation.
