Henry’s Tacos Reopens

Henry’s Tacos, a historic Studio City taco stand, has reopened at a new location following its January closure after 51 years in business. The new location opened Thursday at 4389 Tujunga Ave. is a half a block away from its original spot on Tujunga Avenue and Moorpark Street. Omar Vega, a 21-year-employee at the former stand, purchased rights to the Henry’s name after the closure from Janis Hood, granddaughter of the founder. Hood had gotten entangled in a rent dispute with taco stand’s landlord after she sought the stand’s designation as a city landmark. She had hoped to sell the business on site to two patrons but the deal fell apart. In its final weeks in business, the taco stand attracted long lines, as well as an online campaign to save it that was backed by celebrities such as George Lopez. The new location includes a dining area behind the front counter, some additional seating in front and the original multi-colored Henry’s sign.
