GAME ON

Angry birds, fancy dance moves, blazing guns and battling superheroes all have a place in the world of video and online gaming. San Fernando Valley power players such as Disney Interactive Media Group, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, THQ Inc., Insomniac Games and others play a critical role in a $25 billion U.S. industry that strives to bring new and exciting experiences to gamers of all ages. Every summer in Los Angeles, the global video and online game industry unites for E3, a three-day celebration of immersive visual storytelling and cutting edge technology. At the show this year, a dozen companies from the greater Valley region represented every facet of the industry: game creators, distributors and accessory manufacturers. The event was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 5-7. For many Valley companies, it was the birthplace of new game titles and products that reflect diverse strategies for growing and competing in a fickle and evolving market, where the fun factor is high but the profits are sometimes tough to come by.
