Rocketdyne Receives Grants for Gas Turbine Projects

The Canoga Park company was one of a handful that received multiple awards from the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the Energy Department. “We’re very pleased ARPA-E recognized the unique talents we offer to help meet U.S. energy needs, accelerate innovation in more efficient clean-energy technologies and reduce the environmental impact on our natural resources,” said Neeta Patel, the company’s director of energy systems, in a prepared statement. The projects Rocketdyne will pursue are a partial-oxidation gas turbine to burn natural gas more efficiently; developing technology to improve the efficiency of natural gas-fueled electric power generators; and developing an advanced gas turbine cycle using pure oxygen instead of air to burn fuel. Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is owned by United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Conn.
