New Law Firm Moves to Glendale

The greater San Fernando Valley is getting a new law firm. Christie, Parker & Hale LLP will leave its long-time home in Pasadena and move its more than 100 employees to offices in Glendale, said Byron Hibdon, the firm’s executive director. The intellectual property law firm inked a 15-year, multimillion dollar lease on about 42,000 square feet of office space at 655 N. Central Ave., he said. The firm will pay about $21 million in rent over the life of the lease, Hibdon said, noting that will save about $5 million over 15 years. The savings will enable the firm to upgrade its information technology infrastructure and spruce up its new digs, he said. “I am getting my staff very excited,” Hibdon said. “I was just able to show them renderings.” The new space will provide significant improvement over the firm’s former office, which was spread out over five floors, Hibdon said. Now all employees will be housed on two floors. The firm currently employs 120 people, including 45 attorneys — the vast majority in Pasadena. There are 10 employees based in Orange County. The change of venue is a win for Glendale, said Ken Hitts, the city’s economic development manager. Law firms, which usually dole out high salaries, typically generate a boost for local restaurants and retail outlets. “An investment by a law firm generally creates two jobs for every job they bring to a city,” he said. Christie, Parker & Hale is scheduled to move into the space in mid-December. Hibdon said the firm has occupied its current Pasadena building in some capacity for 27 years. The firm, which was founded in 1954, has been based in the city since its start. — Andrew Khouri
