Cities tighten belts, say more cuts possible

LANCASTER – In what has become almost an obligatory prelude to their 2009-10 budget presentations, city officials warned that cuts in programs could gouge even deeper if the state proceeds with its plan to solve its deficit problems with money from local governments. Speaking Monday at the Lancaster West Rotary Club luncheon, finance directors Barbara Boswell of Lancaster and Betsy St. John of Palmdale displayed their plans for the upcoming fiscal year to club members.
