Besides tracts of homes, there are a number of other construction projects underway in the Santa Clarita valley. In addition to the retail projects springing up all over are a variety of other works, some of which we have summarized below. Santa Clarita Sports Complex Phase 4 Valley Crest Landscape Development has been tentatively awarded the construction contract for a $25 million expansion of the sports complex. Grading for a new skate park to be open to the public in the spring began this summer. A new gymnasium facility for basketball and volleyball opens in 2010. The Plaza at Golden Valley Retail Center Stores began opening in September at this 620,000-square-foot shopping area owned by Terra Mar Retail Centers on the east side of Santa Clarita. Contractor S.D. Deacon has completed the first stores which opened in September. Additional tenants will be coming online through March 2009 including Target, Dress Barn, Bed Bath and Beyond, a new branch for Bank of Santa Clarita, Chili’s and Panera Bread. Soledad Office Center Pyramid Builders started construction in January of 2007 on this 99,500-square-foot class A office space project. The medical office building developed by Cramar Holdings is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Centre Point Marketplace/Soledad Crossings Stores are just beginning to open at this 105,856-square-foot retail complex located off Golden Valley Road. Walmart, Sam’s Club, Office Depot and Dicks Sporting Goods are some of the retailers that will ultimately be located there. Bridgeport Market Place This 130,000-square-foot retail center on Newhall Ranch Road includes restaurants, jewelers and drug store chain Walgreens. New tenants to open this year are Bristol Farms, California Pizza Kitche, and Daphne’s Greek Caf & #233;.
