Holy Cross Urges City to Make Decision on Expansion Plan

Providence Holy Cross officials urged the Los Angeles City Council to expedite the process of determining whether or not the hospital needs an environmental impact report for its multimillion dollar expansion project. At present the City Council has yet to put the matter on its agenda, according to Providence spokeswoman Patricia Aidem. “We’re urging the City Council to reaffirm its initial approval of this project, so we can get back to work,” Aidem said. Last year the City Council determined that the hospital did not need to present an environmental impact report, but that decision was overturned when a judge found that the city did not follow protocol when deciding the matter. Because the hospital has been about 20 to 25 patients over capacity in recent days, it’s imperative that the city take a course of action, Aidem said. The expansion project would create more than 100 additional beds at the hospital.
