Studios Place Anti-Smoking Messages on DVDs

Warner Bros. and The Walt Disney Co. are among the Hollywood studios that will include anti-smoking messages in DVDs aimed at the youth market. The public service announcements are meant as a way to counter the influence of tobacco use in films. The announcements are part of a deal struck between the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the major Hollywood studios Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, and Universal Pictures. “With this agreement, we will be able to promote the benefits of living tobacco-free to millions of viewers at no cost to taxpayers, while encouraging important conversations between parents and their children about the dangers of smoking,” said Kim Belsh & #233;, California Health and Human Services Secretary. The 30-second announcements will run in the opening minutes of DVDs of all new movies with tobacco use that are rated G, PG and PG-13. They end by directing the viewer to www.TobaccoFreeCA.com, for information on the dangers of smoking and for help in quitting and helping others quit.
