More than 11,000 Southern California Albertsons workers have authorized a strike if negotiations with the grocery company fail. The vote by the Southern California chapters of the United Food and Commercial Workers allows union leaders the ability to call a strike if the grocer does not meet their demands. It does not set a date or guarantee a strike. The earliest a strike would happen is April 9; workers could walk off the job April 13. Negotiations continue between the grocer and union. Meanwhile, the grocery workers’ union in California is also planning to file a complaint against Albertsons with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming that the chain has tried to intimidate its union workers in the face of the strike authorization vote.
