Disney Donates To Starlight

The Walt Disney Company presented $2.5 million to Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation’s PC Pal Program. The event took place in New York at the Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children’s Health at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center on December 19th. Robert A. Iger, president and CEO of Disney, presented to Paula Van Ness, CEO of Starlight Starbright. The donation will provide more than 400 laptop computers to pediatric patients between the ages of 5 to 18. Those who participated in the ceremony included Dr. Steven J. Corwin, COO and executive vice president of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Gerald Loughlin, chairman of pediatrics at the Komansky Center, celebrities Kelly Ripa, Ashley Brown, Josh Strickland, and, of course, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. “We are pleased to support the PC Pal Program and anticipate that the computers and games like ‘Toontown Online’ and ‘Learning with Nemo’ will provide children an entertaining and educational experience during their hospital stay,” Iger said in a statement. The PC Pal laptop computers are designed to meet the specific needs of pediatric patients by keeping the kids connected with the world as well as family and friends through e-mail and chat and making it easier to continue with their school work. Employees Donate Bikes The employees at Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) donated over 80 bikes for the Toys for Tots program on December 20, 2006. The AVH employees raised the money for the bikes and donated some of their own. Bill Haviland and Erick Angeles in AVH’s dietary department spearheaded the drive.
