Warner Bros. Donates to Arts

This regular feature focuses on philanthropic activities of Valley-area companies and business people. Warner Bros. Studios has donated the first seed money in a planned $10 million endowment of the Burbank Arts Foundation, a new program created to fund arts education for Burbank Unified School District students. The Burbank entertainment giant gave $300,000 to the new program, which will pay for musical instruments and educator training. “Having been in Burbank for nearly 80 years, Warner Bros. Studios takes great pride in our community, and it is important to us to invest in our youth,” said Lisa Rawlins, senior vice president of studio and production affairs for Warner Bros. Entertainment, in a statement. Warner Bros. in 2004 teamed with the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to create a 10-year-plan to provide arts education to Burbank students. It also gave $25,000 in support over three years. The studio has also created a youth enrichment program that provides scholarships to students looking to pursue a career in entertainment. Wells Still Largest Corporate Donor Wells Fargo donated $1.15 million to nonprofits and awarded 148 grants in the San Fernando Valley in 2006, keeping its place as the largest corporate donor in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties for the year. Among those benefiting from the donations was the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging in Reseda, the Valley Economic Development Center and Children’s Burn Foundation in Sherman Oaks. Donations also went to El Nido Family Centers in Mission Hills, Advancement of Research for Myopathies in Encino, Chase Richards Foundation in Calabasas and New Horizons in North Hills. The company also donated 27 percent of its San Fernando Valley charitable donations to education programs, including to Air Force One Discovery at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library in Simi Valley and California State University Northridge. Nationally, Wells Fargo gave more than $102 million 14,000 nonprofits. “At the core of Wells Fargo’s vision and values is our commitment to give back to the communities we serve,” said Jonathan Weedman, regional vice president of the Wells Fargo Foundation, in a statement. Broker Contribute to Child Center L.A.-based Cresa Partners is giving Van Nuys-based Child Care Resource Center a portion of the commission it received for negotiating the nonprofit’s lease on a Chatsworth building. Cresa plans to donate $64,386 to the Center, which promotes higher standards in childcare and early education in the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and Antelope valleys. The nonprofit also operates the Van Nuys Civic Child Development Center, an early care and education facility that celebrated its first anniversary Jan. 31, and a location in the Antelope Valley. Its new facility is at 20001 Prairie Street in Chatsworth. Cresa frequently gives back a percentage of its fees back to nonprofit clients, such as the American Red Cross. , Chris Coates
